
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Alan V. Pearson, CFRE

Alan V. Pearson began his fundraising career in 1992 and since then he has led the development departments of four non-profit organizations. Collectively, the departments he has led have raised over $40 million during his tenure. Since March, 2014 he has been the Director of Donor Relations and Development for Blue Letter Bible (BLB). Previous to BLB, Alan served Living Waters as Director of Donor Relations and Development (2008-2014).
Alan became active in the National Society of Fund Raising Executives (NSFRE) in 1992. He joined the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), an international organization of over 31,000 fundraisers, in 2002. He is an AFP Ten Star Member and a member of the AFP Alpha Society. Alan has been a member of the AFP Orange County Chapter since 2009. Actively involved since joining the chapter, Alan has held numerous leadership positions for the Orange County Chapter including various committee chairman positions, board member, (2013-2019) and chapter president (2016). Alan earned his Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential in 2006.
Alan has been an exemplary fundraiser who is passionate about mentoring others. As a member of the Association of Donor Relations Professionals (ADRP) he served on the Experts Bureau, and as a coach in their Presenter Coaching Program. Through AFP International, Alan has mentored many development professionals across the USA as a mentor in the Online Mentoring Program. He has also served as a mentor in the AFPOC Mentor Program for more than 10 years, five of which he chaired or co-chaired the program. Through his work as a mentor in these various programs, and as presenter at numerous regional and national conferences for AFP and ADRP, Alan has generously invested his leadership and training skills to help countless development professionals learn and hone their fundraising skills.
In 2018, Alan was selected by the AFP Orange County Chapter as their Outstanding Fundraising Professional of the Year. In 2019, Alan was selected to join a small group of 20 elite fundraisers from across the USA to serve at the AFP Leadership Development Summit in Washington, D.C. The two-day, invitation-only summit was created to help AFP design and implement new and innovative leadership development programs for the fundraising profession.
Under Alan's leadership as the Director of Donor Relations and Development, Blue Letter Bible has seen tremendous and consistent growth in giving. Since 2014, giving from individual donors has seen an average annual increase of 30%. From 2014 through 2023, gifts to Blue Letter Bible have increased from $330k to $3.2m and the number of unique donors in each years has seen a twelve-fold increase from 1,771 donors in 2014, to 21,342 in 2023.
